its really secure release

Its really a secure release

I am going to post what I said about security in Vista on my blog: With all the Security Improvements and innovations, I don't think users will be missing much in terms of AntiVirus. The out of the box experience experience is just tremendous, User Account Protection, Secure Startup, Bi-Directional FireWall, Windows Defender, Internet Explorer 7 Protected Mode. There is definitely a lot for Security in Windows Vista, so spending the additional amount on a good AntiVirus or downloading one of the free ones won't kill you.

Ha! Very true! I've got an article (which hopefully should be updated on my site regularly) for anti-virus software's that work on Vista.

Well spoke and, just because there is nothing in the wild at this point that we can confirm does not mean that nothing exists...

I suppose that, hopefully, least privilege will mean more in the future.

You have an interesting site, Zack. One thing though - When I went to

your home page and then clicked on the Vista link, I got a page saying something like "checking system capabilities" and then it maximized my Firefox. What's that all about? Not nice.

And I thought I was alone. Was breaking my head trying to figure it out

Just in case someone reads this thread and believes that is the full extent of it let me add that not all security innovations are mentioned. Multiple local group policy comes to mind as one that non-enterprise users will find highly useful as an example.

Some of the features are truely annoying. I hate having to click the permission box when I want to open an app or change a setting. I know you can shut AUP down, but, then what have it if they're not going to make more intuitive.

Yes, a lot of persons are complaining about the permissions issue, but I hope they pan out whats a possible vulnerability to whats not a vulnerability in the OS in the next CTP releases. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

Ooh--does that mean group policy that is different for Cindy and Janey (10 year olds) than it is for Matthew (17), let alone me (102)?

Yes Bill :-) that it does (after my arguing that this is needed for the non-domain consumer space in each beta since W2k beta, in Redmond seems to have finally discovered the idea)

Thanks - that is very interesting news--time to do a little digging. I'm particularly interested in how Windows Defender will work with group policy. --
